Pacific Foods is nearing three decades in the natural foods industry: 28 years of making healthy food choices for our customers and the environment. We have seen and participated in substantial innovation and growth during this time.  

The “triple bottom line” of sustainability, including environmental, social and financial aspects, has always been a key piece of our company mission statement: “...produce innovative products that benefit our employees, customers, the environment and our community.” Considering the far-reaching effects of each decision made, and questioning what impact these choices may have, is an integral part of our success.

The answers do not always come simply, but the process of asking them allows us to make the most informed and responsible decisions possible with a level of transparency we’re proud to share. Long-term, these choices result in practices and systems that support sustainable growth and a positive impact on the world in which we all live.

Tetra Pak has been our packaging partner since the beginning, and over the course of our 28 years together, we’ve come to deeply appreciate the commitments we share in the realm of sustainability. Via their new campaign, Moving To The Front, Tetra Pak seeks to evolve the focus of sustainability further, focusing on the front end of the packaging lifecycle. Innovation and bold steps like these have the potential to help both the environment and our businesses thrive.

As Tetra Pak has stated, “Today’s best performance will be tomorrow’s minimum requirement.”
We here at Pacific Foods are looking forward to encouraging these efforts as we as an industry aim for ever higher standards and work together to reduce our footprints on this earth.

Rory Schmick is the Director of Sustainability and Environmental Affairs at Pacific Foods, a recognized leader in natural and organic foods located just outside of Portland, Oregon. He is responsible for developing and leading the company’s sustainability platform and overseeing environmental programs. Prior to joining Pacific in 2006, Rory spent seven years with the International Sustainable Development Foundation, an environmental non-profit organization, managing programs and leading projects domestically and internationally. In 2014 he was appointed by the Governor of Oregon to serve on the State’s Sustainability Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Wetlands Conservancy and the Ecoworks Foundation. Rory earned his B.A. in geography from the University of Colorado.
